The North Shore Youth Soccer Association (NSYSA) is responsible for administering and training referees in the NSYSA District. We schedule referees for interlock, BC Coastal Soccer League, and other affiliated home games. During the regular youth soccer season we schedule referees for over 150 games each weekend.
The NSYSA has over 250 active referees who referee both small sided and full field games.
Do you get paid as a referee?
Yes, referees get paid for each game that they referee. The amount varies from $25 to $65 per game, depending on age, skill level, and whether you are the Centre Referee or an Assistant Referee (linesperson).;
How old do I have to be a referee?
If you are at least 12 years old and live in the NSYSA district, then you are eligible to referee for us.
There is no upper age for referees and we have many referees who are over 60.
How do I sign up to be a NSYSA Referee?
It’s easy!
If you are 12 or 13 years old in the calendar year, you need to register in the BC Soccer Small Sided Referee Clinic to become a Small Sided referee (responsible for U9 to U13). Then sign on with NSYSA to join our roster of referees.
If you are 14 years or older, you can register in the BC Soccer Entry Level Referee Clinic to become a Full Field referee (U14 to U18 and older).
Signing up for courses is through BC Soccer at Referees | BC Soccer Association. The Referee Pathway tab on their site will guide you through the process of signing up for a course. If the course is offered by other districts in BC and they allow you to register, you can then join NSYSA.
To get on the waitlist for the next course offered in our district, send your name and age and interest to NSYSA Ref Assignor <Referee Assignor> .
